In Haryana and Uttar Pradesh in India, where nature's beauty meets the dedication of local

rice farmers, Basmati is critical to the economy and to local communities. But we now know

that the traditional method of growing rice by flooding paddy fields generates a greenhouse

gas called methane. And methane is the second most important greenhouse gas

contributing to climate change.

The good news is that there is a way to cut methane emissions by half by changing how we

grow rice in the field. Tilda is a company with a long history, spanning over 50 years, and it is

working with Haryana's farmers to show how it can be done.

Over 900 farmers are already working with Tilda to test a technique called Alternate Wet

Drying (AWD). Rather than flood paddy fields, pipes are put in the soil to monitor water

levels so that water is only used when required. The method can reduce methane emissions

by up to 50% and cut energy and water use by 20% - saving the farmers money and

protecting the planet.

Tilda asked these farmers to share their experience to encourage more farmers to take part.
